Fencing a Bayside Block in Clifton Springs

Clifton Springs runs from the foreshore up the hill towards Curlewis Road, and what a fence needs changes on the way up. Down near the water and The Dell, salt off Port Phillip Bay gets into standard fittings quickly and shortens the life of any fence that wasn't built for it. A few streets back the salt eases, but plenty of blocks start to slope, and a fence there has to step down the fall without leaving gaps under the panels.

Two of our recent Clifton Springs builds show both sides of it: a capped treated-pine paling fence stepped to follow a sloping block, and a Monument Colorbond fence returning around a corner boundary. Colorbond suits most blocks here because its factory coating stands up to salt air, and on galvanised fittings and poured footings it lasts. Timber suits owners who want the natural look, as long as the fasteners are corrosion-resistant.
